Financial Advising in Neptune City

Got a money question you keep putting off? We sit down with you, look at the real numbers and give you a straight answer. No jargon and no pressure. You leave knowing your options and what we would do in your shoes.

Advice You Can Use the Same Week

Financial advising is the conversation part of what we do. You bring the question: whether to pay down debt or invest, how much to keep in savings, what to do with an old 401(k), or whether a job offer's benefits are any good. We look at your situation and tell you what makes sense.

Some clients come in once with one decision to make. Others check in a few times a year as life changes. Either way, we treat you the way we would treat a neighbor asking for help: we listen, we explain, and we do not push products you do not need.

If the answer turns into a bigger project, like a full financial plan or ongoing investment management, we will say so and explain why. If it does not, we leave it there.

What a Financial Advising Session Covers

  1. 01

A look at the whole picture

We go over income, spending, debt, savings, accounts and insurance together. Advice on one piece is only good if it fits the rest.

  2. 02

    Answers to your specific questions

You set the agenda. Bring the list of things that have been nagging you and we work through them one at a time.

  3. 03

    Investment account guidance

We are Series 7 licensed, so we can talk through brokerage accounts, rollovers and how your current investments are set up, and what we would change.

  4. 04

    Insurance questions

We also hold a license to sell life insurance. That means we can tell you whether you have too little coverage, too much, or the wrong kind, and explain the tradeoffs in plain words.

  5. 05

Coaching on habits, not just numbers

As a credentialed holistic financial coach through Columbia University, we also help with the behavior side: spending patterns, money stress between partners, and sticking to a plan once you have one.

  6. 06

    Written next steps

You leave with a short list of what to do, in order. Nothing vague.

When It Makes Sense to Talk to an Advisor

  • A major decision is ahead

A job change, a wedding, a new baby, a business sale or an inheritance. Choices like these are tough to reverse, so talk them over with someone beforehand.

  • Your accounts are spread out

A 401(k) from each old job, a couple of savings accounts, perhaps a forgotten brokerage account. It gets hard to tell what you own or how it fits together.

  • You and your partner disagree about money

One of you saves and the other spends, and the subject always gets tense. Having a neutral person in the room often makes it easier.

  • Your insurance may not fit anymore

You bought coverage years back, and your life looks different now. You are not certain it still protects what it should.

  • Getting started keeps slipping

If saving for retirement or paying off debt has sat on your someday list for a long time, one meeting can get it going.

How Working With Us Goes

  1. 1

    Phone call

You call and give us the short version of what is on your mind. Then we pick a time for an introductory meeting, either in person with us or over a phone or video call, whichever suits your week.

  2. 2

    Introductory meeting

We get to know you and your goals, and we explain how we work and how we are paid. You decide if we are a good fit before anything else happens.

  3. 3

    Gathering the details

If we go ahead, we ask for statements and paperwork: pay stubs, account statements, insurance policies, loan balances. We tell you exactly what to bring.

  4. 4

    The advice

We walk you through what we found and what we recommend, in plain terms. You can ask as many questions as you want.

  5. 5

    Follow-up

We check in to see how the steps are going. If you want ongoing help, we set a schedule that suits you.

How the Cost of Advice Is Set

Financial advising has no one price, since every situation is different. At the introductory meeting, before you agree to anything, we explain how we are paid. You will see where your money goes and the reason for it.

How involved your finances are
One person with a single retirement account needs less of our time than a family with a business, a rental property and several accounts.
A single question or continuing help
Sitting down once about one decision is priced differently than checking in regularly through the year.
Products you decide to buy
If you buy life insurance or an investment through us, we may earn a commission. We say so clearly at the start, and buying anything is never a requirement.
Working with your other advisors
Teaming up with your accountant or attorney on a larger decision takes more time, and we account for that.

Common Questions About Financial Advising

How does financial advising differ from financial planning?

Advising means working through particular questions and choices as they come up. Planning means putting together a complete written plan for long-term goals. Plenty of clients begin with advice and later ask for a plan, but that step is optional.

Do I need a certain amount saved before you will work with me?

No, we have no minimum. Many of the people we help are clearing debt, setting up their first emergency fund or putting money toward a single goal. Good advice at the start usually helps more than holding off until your accounts grow.

Are you going to push a product on me?

We suggest a product only when it matches what you need, and we explain how we get paid if you buy it. When the best choice is to change nothing or keep what you own, we tell you so.

Do I have to meet at the office?

No. You can come to our office or meet by phone or video. Clients from Neptune, Belmar, Wall and towns nearby often switch between the two from week to week.

What do I need for the first meeting?

Only your questions and a general sense of your goals. If we keep working together, we will hand you a brief list of statements and papers to pull together.

Bring Us Your Money Question

Tell us what is on your mind and we will set up a time to sit down together. You will get straight answers and a clear next step.
