Financial Planning in Neptune City

We sit down with you, learn what you earn, owe, save and hope for, then put it all into one written financial plan. You walk away knowing what to do this year, what can wait, and how each step moves you toward your goals.

What a financial plan does for you

Most people have pieces. A 401(k) from work, a savings account, a life policy from years ago, maybe a brokerage account. Financial planning is the work of fitting those pieces together so they point the same way. We look at the whole picture, find the gaps, and write down a short list of moves in the order they should happen.

We keep it plain. No jargon, no thick binder you never open. Our approach also draws on training as a credentialed holistic financial coach through Columbia University, so we pay attention to habits and the money talks between partners, not just the numbers on a statement.

We work with clients across Neptune City and nearby towns like Belmar, Wall and Asbury Park, at our office or by phone and video. You get the same straight answers either way.

What goes into your plan

Cash flow and spending
We map what comes in and what goes out each month. Then we find room to save without making life miserable.
Debt payoff order
Credit cards, car loans, student loans and mortgages don't all deserve the same attention. We lay out which to pay down first and which can ride.
Cash reserve
We set a target for money you can reach fast, based on your job, your family and your fixed bills.
Retirement targets
We estimate what you'll need and whether your current savings rate gets you there. If retirement is close, our Retirement Planning work goes deeper on income and timing.
Insurance check
We review life, disability and other coverage against what your family would actually need. We are licensed to sell life insurance, and we will also tell you when you already have enough.
Investments and taxes
We look at how your accounts are invested and how they're taxed. As a Series 7 licensed advisor, we can talk through securities in detail, and we hand off to Investment Management or Tax Management when you want ongoing help.

When a financial plan makes sense

  • You put money away but can't tell if it's enough

Each month money goes into your accounts, yet you can't say what it will add up to or by when.

  • A major life event is ahead

A wedding, a new child, a new job, a divorce or an inheritance shifts the numbers. A plan lets you make the decisions that follow on purpose.

  • Your old accounts are spread out

Retirement plans from two or three former employers, each with a separate login. No one is looking at all of them together.

  • Money leads to arguments at home

Partners often see spending and saving differently. A written plan gives you both a neutral reference point.

  • Business and personal money run together

Owners often pour everything back into the company. We help you settle how much to pay yourself and how much to keep outside the business.

What sets the cost of financial planning

We won't give a number until we understand your situation. The cost depends on how much needs sorting out and whether you want one plan or continuing help. We explain the fee at your introductory meeting, before any work begins.

How much is going on

One person with a single job and a 401(k) takes less time than a couple with stock options, a rental property and children nearing college.

Owning a business

A business brings questions about your pay, retirement accounts and who takes over later. Those take more hours.

A single plan or ongoing help

Some clients take the plan and carry it out on their own. Others want regular check-ins and updates during the year.

How organized your records are

Tidy statements speed things up. Hunting down old accounts takes more time.

How we build your plan

  1. 1

    Introductory meeting

We talk about where you are and what you want. You'll know by the end whether working together makes sense.

  2. 2

    Gather the paperwork

We give you a short list: pay stubs, account statements, insurance policies, recent tax returns. Bring what you have. Missing pieces are normal.

  3. 3

    We write the plan

We run the numbers and put together a plain written plan with a ranked list of action steps.

  4. 4

    Walk through it together

We go over every recommendation and why it's there. Ask anything. Nothing happens until you agree to it.

  5. 5

    Check in as life changes

Plans go stale. We meet again when your situation shifts or on a schedule you pick, and update the plan.

Common financial planning questions

What separates financial planning from wealth management?

A financial plan is the map: where you stand, where you want to end up and the steps between. Wealth Management is the continuing, hands-on work of managing your assets over the years. Many clients begin with a plan and choose later whether they want more.

Is a plan only for people with a lot of money?

No. People early in their working years often gain the most from a plan, since small changes today grow over decades. We work with clients at all stages.

Are you going to sell me insurance?

If your plan shows you need a life policy, we can place one. The plan comes first, though, and coverage is only one piece of it. If your current coverage is enough, we'll tell you and move on.

What do I need for the first meeting?

You don't need anything for the introductory meeting. Just be ready to talk about your goals and concerns. If we go forward, we'll hand you a brief list of documents.

Can we meet over video instead of in the office?

Yes. You can meet with us at our office, by phone or by video, whichever suits your schedule.

How often does my plan need updating?

Once a year at minimum, and whenever something major happens, such as a new job, a move or a new baby. We'll let you know when it's due.
